Black Pottery Products Handling and Care Instructions
Black pottery products handling and care instructions are required to avoid chips and cracks. It’s important to treat them gently, using both hands for larger pieces.
Seasoning Instructions for Cookware Products ( Handi, Kadai, Pan etc.)
- Submerge the cookware products( Handi, Kadai, Pan etc.) in water for at least 24 hrs, then take it out and remove all that water and let it dry in open air for a while.
- After it dries up, use any virgin oil on all the parts of the the cookware products, both inside & out and leave it for 6-7 hours before the oil dries off completely.
- Once it dries off, its good to go for cooking on low to medium flame and do not preheat an empty cookware products, because preheating an empty product can cause uneven heating and lead to cracking due to thermal stress.
- Its always recommended to cook some liquid meals in the initial 2-3 usages for better life of the cookware products.
Seasoning Instructions for Non-Cookware Products (Cup, Mug, Bowl etc.)
- Soak the item in water for at least 24 hours to hydrate the clay.
- Remove it from the water and let it air dry completely.
Cooking Instructions
- Avoid exposing black pottery to direct flame without food or liquids inside, as this can lead to thermal shock..
- Always start cooking on low heat and gradually increase the temperature. This will help prevent cracking due to sudden temperature changes.
- It is always recommended not to use metallic spoons while cooking in clay products.
Washing Instructions
- Wash black pottery products with warm water and lime and avoid using harsh scrubbing tools like steel wool or abrasive pads, which can damage the surface.
- For tough stains, use a soft brush or sponge with baking soda and water.
- For general and deep cleaning, allow the earthen pot to soak overnight in the sink in water mixed with baking soda, add 3 tablespoons of baking soda per liter of hot water and wash it using a soft bristle brush or nonmetallic scrubbing pad.
Mold Prevention
- If moisture leads to mold formation, sprinkle baking soda on affected areas and rinse with warm water using a soft brush
Storing
- After use, ensure the pottery is completely dry before storing it. Moisture can cause mold or compromise the material over time.
- Store the pottery in a well-ventilated space to allow air circulation, which helps preserve the longevity of the material.
Maintenance
- If the pottery develops any cracks, consider reconditioning it by soaking in water overnight and letting it dry completely before using it again.
Avoid Extreme Temperature Changes
- Black pottery is sensitive to thermal shock. Avoid moving the pot directly from the fridge to the stove or placing it in cold water immediately after cooking.
